Soapstone   |   Handbags   |   Beaded Items

These gorgeous beaded items are made by the Samburu people in Kenya. Using authentic Czech beads (the original beads brought to Kenya by European traders), women create vibrant patterns and styles. The Samburu use beads to commemorate significant events in their lives by making necklaces, bracelets, and headdresses which tell of their family histories.

These decorative bowls and round boxes are also practical and each has a unique, bright color combination. They come in sets of three and are sure to brighten any room.

Sizes range from about 4-6' in diameter and approximately 2-6" in height.

The workshop that employs these artisans not only sustains them by providing steady work but also puts their proceeds into a health clinic for the Samburu people and an art center where children can paint during school vacations.
