Knit Goods
Banana trees abound in Rwanda, particularly in the north where Dian Fossey conducted her famous work with the gorillas.
Our artisans skillfully turn banana fibers (leaves and bark) into functional household items such as magazine racks and trays of different shapes and sizes. Products made from banana fiber have either a "braided" style or a more closed, "wrapped" look. Both of which are sturdy and attractively display the natural color variations of this material.
Also from banana, intricate greeting cards made by a group of talented orphaned boys who came together as orphans after the genocide.
