Bark Cloth & Recycled Paper Products

Bark cloth, which comes from fig trees, was one of the first fabrics of tropical Africa and to this day has strong ritual importance to the people of Uganda. Once a popular fabric for clothing including traditional dress, today bark cloth is used for many every day items such as placemats and covers for journals and photo albums. Learn how bark cloth is made.

Albums hold 4" x 6" prints, and the journals are filled with handmade, recycled paper.

Patterns are made from block prints and stencils and some items may be stitched or embroidered with sisal. Each pattern can have a special meaning for a village or family, and abstract and zig-zag shapes are quite common.
